Learn the Japanese technique of flower pounding

Grab your hammers! In this morning workshop we will bring together flowers foraged from our gardens and local environment to create patterns on fabric. We will use the method of flower pounding to transfer the pigment from the flowers onto treated cloth - a unique design directly referencing the plants around us.
I will also have an indigo vat going for when we need a break from hammering!
Students will have the opportunity to print a tote bag and a bandana scarf.
Cost: $35 + $15 material fee
What is included:
Mordanted tote and scarf ready to be printed
Prepared indigo vat and fabric scraps for experimenting
Flowers and plants from my garden
What is needed:
Rubber gloves
Apron
Plant and flower materials gathered from home
Packed snacks
Hammer
Rubber mallet (if you have one!)

Your Instructor
Alissa Kloet is a life-long lover of textiles, pattern and colour. She learned the art of screen-printing and surface design at Sheridan College and upon graduating obtained her Bachelor of Fine Arts from Nova Scotia College of Art and Design. Her textile journey has also included learning from natural dye experts from Toronto, Ontario to Rajasthan.
Alissa has been an instructor in the textile department at NSCAD and now teaches workshops in her home studio.
